"All I ever wanted
Was to see you smiling
All I ever wanted
Was to make you mine"

~*~*~*

It was a couple weeks before your Elementary School had Christmas break. You were in the first grade.

You stood there, crying your eyes out. Somebody in your class took the ball you were playing with away and wouldn't give it back. Now, classmates were throwing snowballs, which secretly had rocks and icicle shards in them, right at you. All the teachers were inside grading papers and such, so you were just being bullied. Nobody was coming to help you. Everyone was laughing at how innocent and weak you were, spewing rude insults for no reason.

"Hey! Leave her alone!" You calmed down your crying for a moment, still sniffling and whimpering a little, to see who said that. You blinked at the boy behind all the kids. He came running past everyone, standing in front of you protectively. His hair looked as though it was parted to the left, yet still short. His eyes were golden brown, reminding you of one of the fifth graders at the school. His little brother, maybe?

All the boys looked at each other with a confused expression before shrugging and throwing snowballs again. This time, though, they were aimed towards the boy in front of you. The boy had his arms open wide, purposely taking all the hits. The bell rang and everyone started yelling, running inside to get to class. You rubbed your almost frozen tears off of your eyes and tapped the boy on the shoulder. You could feel the bruises and cuts on your arms and cheeks, but you didn't mind the pain. The boy turned around and smiled weakly at you.

"Are you okay?" You went wide-eyed. He had a cut on his eye and a big bruise on his cheek. They really did shove rocks and icicles in there!

"I-I'm fine..B-But..A-Are you okay?" He winced in pain, but forced another smile.

"Of course I am..My brother says that Chinese people are very strong, so I know that I am fine.." You stood there, dumbfounded for a minute, before bursting into tears. The boy blinked and started to shake his arms and tried to comfort you. "I-I'm sorry! D-Did I say something wrong?!" You kept crying, hugging the boy tightly.

"Y-You're in pain! I-It's all my fault! I-I never meant to m-make you go into so much p-pain!!" The boy didn't know what else to do other than to hug you. He began to rub your back in reassurance, telling you he was fine. You two stood there for a while before a teacher came out and took you back in.

---

You and the boy who saved you, named Xiao Chun, had become good friends ever since that day. It was the day before Christmas break and you decided you wanted his number so you could call him over the break. He simply nodded and wrote down his number on a stray piece of paper, rather sloppily too. You giggled at his terrible handwriting and wrote yours on a different piece of paper, handing it to him.

"That way, we'll always stay in touch!" You smiled at him, gaining a small smile back from Xiao.

The teacher smacked a ruler on the table, making the whole class jump and turn their attention to her.

"Class! Today, we'll be finishing up our Christmas cards for your parents! The supplies you need are already at your tables, so you can start decorating and finishing the cards!" You smiled brightly and the markers and colored pencils in front of you. This was your favorite part of the day! Since Christmas was just next week, your teacher decided it would be a fun project to make Christmas cards for your parents. Xiao looked over at you and smiled again.

~~~
Xiao's had a crush on [Name] ever since he saw her. The way she could keep smiling no matter what happened always made his heart flutter a little. A little was an understatement. It fluttered A LOT. He can't control how much his heart flutters for her. She was just so perfect! He was just too scared to tell her how he truly felt. His mother's words echoed throughout his mind everyday.
'One does not know the meaning of true love until they know they have found the person they want to give their heart to.'
Xiao sighed sadly, knowing he probably doesn't stand a chance against all the boys in the first grade. One, they were all scared of him! His calm and quiet nature apparently made them think that he was the biggest bully around!  Two, [Name] didn't seem to take interest in him that much. Sure, they've been friends for a while, but it doesn't seem as though she's opened her heart to him just yet. Xiao mumbled to himself in Chinese while finishing his Christmas cards lazily.
-------
You looked out the window of the Hallmark store, watching the small flakes of frozen water slowly making their way to the soft, white and fluffy ground. It was two days before Christmas and you were awaiting your tenth order of Christmas ware to come by. Everyone was crazy around this time of year! The first week you set the merchandise out, everything was almost gone by the end of the day. Sure, you were only a part time worker, but you still considered the store as your own. You sighed and looked at your phone, opening it up just to look at the background. You smiled a little at it. It was a photo of you and Xiao from when you were together last, which was almost a month ago. He's been going to college, studying the major of an artist, while you were stuck still trying to earn the money to go to college. Thus, the reason you part time working at the Hallmark store.
Your thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a large truck beeping near the door. You groaned and slipped on your jacket, zipping it up as you made your way outside.
---
You shivered as you walked back inside to unpack. It was nearly below freezing out there! You took off your coat and went into the 'Employees Only' part of the store to make some hot chocolate.
Just as you were pouring water into the cup, the store door rang. You cursed silently to yourself as you set the stirring spoon down and walked back into the main part of the store. Just as you picked your head up, you stopped all movements. The man who just entered had dark brown hair, parted to the left of his head. His chocolate brown eyes stared right at you. His hat was full of snow, along with his blood red jacket. You two stared at each other for a minute before you ran over to him and nearly tackled him to the ground. He chuckled as he hugged you back.
"Nice too see you too, [Name]." You nearly squeeled into his chest with excitement.
"Xiao, I haven't seen you for so long!" You got off of him and helped him up, smiling brightly at him. "Would you like some hot chocolate? I just made myself some, so I don't mind going back to make you a cup." He smiled and nodded, jumping over the counter and sitting back in the cashier's seat. You giggled and ran to the back to make him a cup of hot chocolate. Multiple memories of you two ran throughout your mind as you poured the water into the cup. You smiled mostly at the one of when you two met each other for the first time. The way he stood up for you even though he didn't know you made your heart race. He was a true hero, though you never really told him that.
You walked out to the cashier's desk and handed him one of the cups, leaning over the counter as he took the cup. You two sat in silence for a while before he finally broke it.
"So how's it been since we last spoke to each other?" You smiled and shook your head.
"All I can say is that I've been bored without you. I've seriously only been working here and staying at home playing Zelda." He laughed a bit loud and you flushed a cherry red color in embarrassment. You kept your head turned away from him and pouted. "D-Don't laugh at me! I-I don't really know what to do without a friend.." He chuckled a bit more before shutting up finally. You sighed and turned around, leaning your back on the counter. "So how's college been? Learn anything interesting?" He turned his attention away from you back to his cup, staring at his reflection through the milky chocolate substance.
"I've been learning a lot. It doesn't seem to be as interesting as I thought, considering I'm getting A's with no effort put through." You giggled. He was always smarter than you. You thought it was a typical Chinese gene. He gave you an awkward look before taking a sip of his chocolate. You smiled softly and stared at your reflection in your cup.
"Have you done any major projects in Art class yet?" He kept quiet for a moment.
"..Yeah. I'm working on one right now, in fact. Its nearly complete, I just need to finish some touches on it." You blinked before grinning at him.
"Can I see it when you finish?" Xiao stiffened slightly in his seat. He didn't say anything for a while before relaxing and nodding slightly. He finished up his cup of hot chocolate and set it on the counter. He stood up and walked over to the entrance and turned to you.
"Meet me in townsquare on Christmas. I won't visit tomorrow, but come to townsquare on Christmas Day." With that, he nodded and walked out of the store, disappearing into the snow filled streets. You stared at the door in confusion, wondering what on Earth just happened. Shrugging it off, you took his cup to the back and washed it out.
'I guess I'll see him again on Christmas...Not that I'm doing anything anyways..'
--------
"Xiao!" [Name] ran up to the Asian boy, her curled hair bouncing up and down. Xiao turned to her, going wide eyed at her.
"[Name], did you get a new outfit?" She smiled brightly and nodded. [Name]'s dress was a knee-lengthed, white, sequen-studded dress. She had a white beret fixed on her head and diamond studded earrings placed in her earrlobes. She had an overcoat, which was red and had fuzz on the ends of it.
"My mommy bought this for me a couple days ago! She said to only wear it on special occassions!" Xiao gave her a confused look.
"Then, why are you wearing it today? Besides, its almost below ten degrees out today..Plus its gonna snow even more.." [Name]'s smile turned into a frown. She puffed out her cheeks and stomped her foot, the end of the dress bouncing up and down as she moved.
"It IS a special occasion! Today is the last day we see each other before Christmas break, dork!" Xiao blinked before a little bit of pink tinting his cheeks. He looked down at his feet, looking for the right words to say. [Name] sighed and patted his shoulder. "I'm not that angry, Xiao. Don't worry!" Xiao picked his head up and smiled slightly at the cheerful girl in front of him.
"Yeah..Today is a special day..." [Name] giggled that symphony-like giggle and squeeled a little. She grabbed his hands and jumped up and down a little.
"That's the spirit! Come on, lets get to class!" Xiao chuckled and nodded, allowing her to drag him down into Mrs. Gentry's room.
----
You groaned as your alarm clock went off on Christmas morning. You slammed your hand down on the clock in frustration and rolled over, hoping to get at least a LITTLE more sleep. Much to your dismay, your cell phone went off and screamed "I'm on a horse"[1] at you. Silently, well, LOUDLY cursing to yourself, you sat up and grabbed your phone, falling back onto the bed. You checked the text that you received and gave it a confused look.
Xiao :) [ Sunday Sunday December 25, 2011 9:32 AM ]: Hey, meet me at the townsquare at 7 tonight. Make sure to look real pretty like you did in second grade the day before Christmas break.
You sat there for a moment, piecing together what just happened. When you finally did realize it, you blushed brightly.
You were going on a date with Xiao.
You got up out of bed, as stiff as a stick, and walked over to your closet. You opened it and searched around for the white dress your mother bought you for last year's Christmas.
'C'mon! I know its in here somewhere!' You cursed to yourself and started throwing clothes out of your closet now. You wanted to wear that dress!
After a bit of searching, you found the cream white piece of clothing. Last time you tried it on, it went to just above your knees. Your mother had bought a bunch of accessories to go along with it. After looking through jewelry boxes and the top parts of your closet, you pieced together your outfit. Sighing in relief, you walked downstairs to have breakfast.
You sat down with a cup of coffee and thought of Xiao for a minute. Before you realized it, you were in a dreamland of Christmas last year.
---
"Merry Christmas, Xiao!" You smiled brightly as you ran up to the Asian boy. He simply smiled and nodded. You handed him a golden-colored gift box, a goofy smile plastered on your face. Xiao looked at it with a confused expression.
"What's this, [Name]?" You laughed and motioned for him to open it. He gave you a cautious look before proceeding to open it. You kept the goofy grin plastered on your face as his eyes grew wide at the box's contents. He looked up at you, speechless.
"Great present, isn't it?" There were two boxes of the finest pastels, both under the Gioconda brand. There were also two pastelbords included. They were of the finest brand, as well. Xiao furrowed his brow in confusion.
"..How did you ever get enough money to buy these, [Name]?" You laughed at his only reaction.
"Oh you know. I had to work over-time, along with get a couple extra part-time jobs. So I did my part-time job for Hallmark in the morning until twelve, giving me an hour break, then I headed over to Wal-Mart and worked until five, heading straight to Arthur's for babysitting after my Wal-Mart job. On the weekends, I worked double-time for Hallmark and Wal-Mart!" You grinned at Xiao's now concerned expression.
"That isn't good for your health, [Name]. You should really watch over how much you do in one day!" You waved a hand in reassurance.
"Dude, I LIVE to stay awake. None of that could ever make me tired!" He sighed and closed the box, handing it back to you.
"I cannot accept this, [Name]. You worked too hard for this present, yet I do not deserve it." You pushed it back to him, giving him a warm smile.
"Of course you deserve it, Xiao. You put up with me since first grade, remember?" He gave a worrying glance and you gave him a glare. He sighed in defeat and nodded.
"Okay, fine. But I don't know how I'll ever repay you, [Name]."
"Well, I do!" He blinked in confusion. You grinned. "If you draw any realistic things in there, I want you to show me how you made it come to life!" Xiao looked down at the box then back to you.
"But how is that possible?"
"Well, first, you draw whatever it is you're going to draw! A human, an animal, whatever! And you gotta put it into an interesting scene, like fireworks in the background or a forest or whatever! Then, once you finished it, you call me up and we'll go make it live!" Xiao looked at you in awe. He's never heard of such a request, for a gift even! With a moment of silence, he nodded in understanding.
"Well, that seems fair enough. I guess that'll work.." You grinned and hugged Xiao tightly. Pulling away, you looked at your watch, slapping yourself physically.
"Oh god, I gotta get home! My mom planned something special tonight, so I have to go home right now! Well, Merry Christmas, again! Bye, Xiao!" And with that, you ran off in the direction you came. Xiao sighed happily, watching as you disappeared into the white, blissfully happy streets.
---
Your home phone interrupted your thoughts as it sang loudly throughout the house. You sighed and scrunched your nose up at the phone.
"Oh jeez, who could it be now!?" You stomped over to the phone and answered it violently. "Hello!?"
"Woah, what got in your butt, [Name]?" You blinked before rubbing the bridge of your nose in frustration.
"Nothing, Al..Why'd you call this time?" You heard his signature laugh and rolled your eyes.
"I was wondering if you wanted to come to my super cool Christmas party! Everyone's gonna be here, and I mean EVERYONE. Whaddya say?" Running a hand through your hair, you sighed in anger.
"Alfred, I told you, I don't like people OR parties. If I don't like people, obvioously I'm not gonna like parties. Please, just..Just don't." You didn't know what else to say.
"Oh yeah...Um...S-Sorry, [Name]..I didn't mean to offend you at all.." You gulped and sighed, hating yourself for the sudden outburst at the American.
"I'm sorry, Alfred..I just..I'm not in the mood today..But if you want, I'll come over tomorrow and kick your butt at Mario Kart?" You could hear his cheerful aura through the phone as he laughed loudly.
"You will NOT win! It's on, [Name]!" You laughed as you hung up, leaning on your wall as you set the phone back on the home base. Suddenly, something flashed in your mind. You blinked, wondering what could've possibly done that. The flash again. You rubbed your temple, hoping the flashes would stop. There was a flash again, but this time the image stayed clear.
Xiao was sitting there, smiling softly at you in the snow. There were fireworks in the background, probably because of the fireworks for Christmas. You went wide eyed at the sudden realization.
"Do I...Love Xiao..?" You blinked before rubbing your eyes, trying to get Xiao's smiling face out of your mind. "I can't love him! He's my best friend!!" You groaned and plopped onto your couch, turning on the TV to start playing Zelda. "I gotta get that out of my head, he's just a friend.." You sat in silence for a moment. "..And that's what I want myself to believe..."
----
"Dammit, Link! I'm gonna punch you in the balls next time I see you!" You threw your controller on the ground as Link fell to the ground, dead. You groaned at the screen and turned it off, glancing at the clock. "Six eleven...I guess I'll go take a shower now..." You stomped upstairs, still grumbling stuff about not loving him to yourself. You walked into the bathroom and looked at your reflection, frowning sadly.
"Besides..Its not like he'd ever like someone like me back.."
---
You slipped on your white, wool boots and checked yourself in the mirror. Your white beret set perfectly to the side of your head, your curled hair, that was pinned back, brushing your shoulders. Your dress definitely settled just above your knees. You were wearing white tights underneath your dress and a warm, white jacket over your dress. Sighing happily, you placed a heart locket around your neck and applied some chapstick to your lips.
"Alright, time to go piss of a Hokkien boy." You laughed at the word and picked up your phone, shoving it in your pocket as you ran out the door to the townsquare.
Once you arrived, you looked around for him. Of course, he was settled on a bench by the giant tree in the middle of the square, reading a manga. You giggled to your self and walked over to him, placing your hands on your hips.
"Enjoying yourself?" He only nodded in response and you smiled softly. He looked up at you and smiled back.
"Merry Christmas, [Name]." You giggled and nodded.
"Merry Christmas, Xiao." You sat down next to him and he set his book down. "So, you brought the painting, my master-artist friend?" He chuckled at the strange nickname and shook his head.
"No, but I did bring something better than that." You blinked in confusion as he pulled out a portrait-sized square from behind the bench. You went wide eyed at it.
"Xiao..What's this..?" He smiled and handed it to you.
"Open it. You'll be surprised." You looked at him in confusion before slowly opening the square, going wide eyed at its contents. It was a portrait of the square's Christmas tree. The decorations were all perfect and set exactly where they were on the real tree. You blinked. There were two people in front of the tree. They looked like..
They looked like you and Xiao. Going wide eyed, you turned your head to Xiao.
"Xiao..I.."
"Great present, isn't it?" You felt tears welling up in your eyes as you could only nod. You covered your mouth at the beautiful portrait. He smiled and pulled you into a hug. You tried your best not to cry, but they leaked out of your eyes anyways. Xiao smiled softly and stood up, pulling you with him. He gently took your chin in his hands and turned your face towards his. "Its the present you wanted from last Christmas. 'Make it live', you said." You went wide eyed at him. Slowly, he brought his lips to yours in a soft, yet passionate, kiss. Everything around you seemed to freeze as you realized something. You were fighting with yourself about it all day, and you finally came to a conclusion.
You were in love with Xiao.
You hugged Xiao around the neck and rested your head on the crook of his neck.
"Why'd you do this, Xiao..?" He chuckled softly and hugged you back, whispering to you through your hair.
"I love you, [Name]. You're what inspired me to go to college as an artist. Everything you've ever done for me, all the compliments, the encouragement; everything. You're all I've ever wanted." You were speechless. The hint in his tone of voice meant he truly meant what he was saying. Feeling tears coming, you hugged him tighter.
"This is the best Christmas I've ever had, Xiao..And its all thanks to you.."
It was like my own Christmas wonderland, with you beside me...
And I didn't want to leave it..
